what's going on guys my name is wade

with tech daily so this is the oneplus

nord n205g

and if you're outside the us you

probably are pretty familiar with the

oneplus brand they became most widely

known for offering flagship caliper

smartphones with all the top features

and specs at a more affordable price

point here in the states though oneplus

hasn't quite gained the same widespread

recognition in the higher end space like

samsung apple or even motorola and more

recently they've actually transitioned

into offering some of the most

affordable budget 5g smartphones this

device the n200 5g is exactly that

nearly the cheapest 5g smartphone for us

carriers particularly t-mobile and metro

and a more direct competitor to the

samsung a32 5g the t-mobile revel and

motorola's moto stylus and 5g ace

basically the 200 to 300 range at that

price point you can definitely expect

some compromises but with oneplus still

touting their never settle tagline i

think fans of the brand do expect better

than average specs solid features and a

good overall value for the money the

n205g offers a lot and i think some

aspects of this phone do exceed that

budget branding but there's certainly

been some settling that might make you

reconsider this device versus the

competition physically the n205g i think

Build & Size

is the best looking most modern most

well-designed device in that budget 5g

space it's a good-looking phone from

every angle and it starts up front the

6.49 inch display is surrounded by

relatively minimal bezels all around

there's a slight chin at the bottom a

corner hole punch camera cut out up top

and a nearly 84 screen to body ratio

overall compared to the notched selfie

cameras and more obvious borders of some

other phones you get a lot less

distractions and a more high-end look

with this phone around back this phone

sports a metallic-like faded blue finish

that is still plastic but gives off a

much more premium vibe paired with a

polished camera module and chrome blue

metal-like frame this phone looks and

feels like a higher-end device and

that's something i really like

design-wise oneplus really did an

awesome job also the overall form factor

of the phone is a bit smaller and more

comfortable too it's not drastically

different i certainly wouldn't call it a

small device but compared to the usual

6.6 or 6.7 inch smartphones falling just

shy of 6 and a half makes this phone

easier to use with one hand taking a

look around all the rest of the physical
Physical Tour

traits you'd want are here too this

phone does have expandable storage via a

micro sd card slot which you'll

definitely need since you get just 64

gigabytes of internal storage more on

that later there's a side mounted

fingerprint sensor as well which you

guys know i really appreciate it's maybe

not as fast as some others i've tried

but it works well enough and paired with

face unlock which is actually really

quick i can usually get into the phone

almost as soon as i pick it up oneplus

also kept the headphone jack down below

alongside the usbc port and the single

Speaker Test

speaker on this phone offers a pretty

good out loud listening experience for

what it is

i think physically the n200 has a lot

going for it but let's get into some of

Display

the specs and features and talk about

the overall user experience now because

there's some important things to discuss

with the screen on this thing oneplus

went with a 2400 by 1080 resolution ips

lcd panel now on the one hand this is a

very sharp looking display at some 405

pixels per inch you're getting a crisp

viewing experience with tons of detail

and i think if you're picky about pixels

you won't have any complaints this is

the sharpest display in that budget 5g

category but like i've said before the

lcd panel isn't going to be as bold or

as bright as oled which you could get on

similarly priced devices though probably

at a lower resolution fortunately i do

think oneplus brought a better than

average lcd display that still pops and

can still be viewed well outdoors and

overall i do think the viewing

experience is overwhelmingly solid also

the display itself is a 90 hertz panel

so you get that fast and smooth

experience with everything you do on the

device and that not only makes the phone

look faster but also feel ultra

responsive i know you can't have it all

with these more affordable smartphones

and a sharp looking 90 hertz screen

that's still lcd isn't a bad combination

but even a 720 oled panel might have

made sense on this particular phone

based on its smaller size while i don't
Specs & Performance

necessarily consider the screen to have

any major compromises the internal specs

that power this phone do seem like they

miss the mark a bit more the processor

inside is the snapdragon 480 5g chipset

which by itself isn't bad but you're

stuck with just four gigs of ram in this

phone and 64 gigs of internal storage

which is why i mentioned earlier that an

sd card is a must-have add-on also there

aren't any other configuration options

for the n200 this is the only model the

only spec so you couldn't get any more

ram or any built-in storage even if you

wanted to now the specs are one thing it

really comes down to how this phone

performs and with this there's a couple

factors to consider in general i've

always been a fan of what oneplus does

with the android skin and oxygen os this

is a unique take on a relatively stock

android experience and i think it's

usually pretty fast fluid and well

optimized but with that being said i

have found this n200 to be a little more

susceptible to jitters joltiness a bit

of input lag or other performance blips

that i haven't really noticed on some

other oneplus devices before i can't

really tell if it's a spec issue

software optimization deal or something

else but it's not the overwhelmingly

positive software experience that i

expected furthermore i think this phone

does suffer a little bit in having only

four gigs of ram apps just don't stay

current and i often find that once you

have five or six things opened up

jumping back into something else usually

requires a refresh now fortunately if

you're focused on one task whether that

be social media use or web browsing or
Gaming & Battery life

even some gaming the phone will perform

really well and i don't think there's

anything this device can't handle

oneplus is gaming mode which hides

notifications adjusts the drop down menu

touch areas and can even restrict

background usage to enhance performance

also suggests that more graphics heavy

apps were consideration with this device

and in-game performance is quite good

all things considered i didn't

experience the jitters or frame drops

that were more prevalent in app

launching or scrolling but i think all

in all with oneplus in particular

there's always been a higher than

average expectation for the overall

specs and performance and the

semi-frequent performance blips this

phone showed me had me feeling as though

the n200 wasn't quite up to the oneplus

standard when it comes to battery life

the 5000 milliamp battery is plenty big

to power through the day to say the

least and this is certainly a

potentially two-day kind of smartphone

if you aren't a particularly heavy user

you could easily exceed 15 or 16 hours

of screen on time under normal use which

is great and battery life just hasn't

been a concern with this phone the

included 18 watt charger and one plus

branded bright red cable are great to

have as well there's no cheaping out

with the accessories and you'll be able

to get about a 30 charge in 30 minutes

but again with oneplus often touting the

fastest charging speeds available on

their higher end phones i think

something a bit faster than this fast

charger maybe 25 watts would have been

nice after all it does still take nearly

an hour and a half to get all the way
Camera & Picture Samples

back up to 100

finally let's talk about the camera

setup and to be totally honest i can

look past every other minor critique

i've given this phone except for its

camera capabilities hardware wise the

specs almost immediately set the stage

you get a 13 megapixel main lens 2

megapixel macro lens and 2 megapixel

depth sensor there's no wide angle here

which is the first bummer and the 2

megapixel macro really isn't a necessary

add-on the selfie camera is a more

respectable 16 megapixel shooter and

actually inside the camera app oneplus

does offer an array of shooting modes

and features that seem to be better than

average there's a night mode manual

controls an extra hd filter hdr support

and an ai add-on to artificially boost

the color and detail of certain scenes

but the real world results with this

phone just don't add up and compared to

the major progress other budget phones

have made over the years this sort of

feels like a step back the n200 has the

potential to take a good shot outdoors

and great lighting things can look

pretty good but inconsistency is really

what gets this phone every other shot

looks duller dimmer and void of a lot of

detail compared to what you might want

you're also just at the mercy of the

main lens there's no ultra wide no real

zoom capabilities besides 5x digital and

night mode and low light shots in

particular can often turn out harsh with

video i thought this phone actually did

a better job it's relatively smooth no

major focus hunting issues it's maxed

out at 1080 30 fps but considering what

you get with pictures the video

capabilities are a pleasant surprise

overall though i'm sort of disappointed

by the less than ideal results i was

getting with this phone if i had the

choice i'd much rather shoot with

samsung's a32 5g for example which

offers way more capabilities and

features and better real-world results

for sure than this at a similar price

and it's the camera setup as a whole

that's probably the biggest weak point

for this phone all in all i'm a little
Conclusion

more critical of oneplus simply because

they have always been the brand to tout

more features and more specs at a more

affordable price but with this budget

and 205g there's certainly some aspects

that fall short i think it's a great

looking phone well built nicely designed

it's a unique size too it's got a decent

display the viewing experience is pretty

positive but the performance blips and

subpar camera are certainly noticeable

compromises for an otherwise decent

device you get what you pay for though

this is one of the cheapest 5g phones

after all i think you'll just need away

what's most important for you so there

you go those are my thoughts on the

oneplus and 205g what do you guys think

am i just being too hard on this phone
